Leaving a legacy to YAYAS

Legacies to Yorkshire Architectural and York Archaeological Society

YAYAS has been fortunate to receive legacies in the wills of people who’ve wanted to support our work.  If you think you’d like to follow their example, please read on.

YAYAS has been working to support the architectural, archaeological and historical understanding of York’s past for more than 150 years.  To do this, we publish books, the York Historian and YAYAS Times, provide lectures and offer excursions to places of interest around York and further afield. We also have two archives, one for illustrations and one for written records. Both of these can be used for anyone wanting to do research.  From time to time we help local history groups, helping ensure that all the finer details that make up York’s historical fabric don’t get swept away and lost.

As a charity, we don’t set out to make a profit.  We charge a membership fee and invite donations from non-members at our lectures.  We charge for transport and entry fees for our excursions where these are needed.

In recent years we’ve visited St. Lawrence Church and Bedern and Minster Yard among other places, hearing about their history and architecture from local experts. Further afield, we’ve visited Tadcaster and Kiplin Hall and will shortly visit Louth. Reports on our excursions are recorded on our website.

While codicils can be kept with existing wills, there are safeguard arrangements with these.  If anyone wants to write or change a will or write a codicil, YAYAS does not give legal advice and recommends consulting a solicitor.
